Japanese Language Policy and Education

The Agency aims to improve and disseminate the Japanese language, and highlight the importance of Japanese language education as the basis of Japanese culture; this includes raising public awareness of the joyo kanji-hyo, or national list of Chinese characters in common use, based on a review and report by the Council for Cultural Affairs Subdivision on the Japanese Language. The Agency also promotes Japanese language education for foreigners living in Japan, through the provision of support for Japanese language education programs, training teachers of Japanese language, and carrying out various surveys and studies.

List of Measures and Projects

  • Japanese Language Policy

    Introduction of information on Japanese language measures, including reference materials on standard writing style, and results of opinion surveys on the Japanese language.

  • Japanese Language Education

    Introduction of information on a Japanese language education project for "foreigners living in Japan", and other Japanese language education measures.
