The National Cultural Festival is a festival of culture which aims to motivate people to join cultural activities and encourage the creation of new arts and culture, by providing the Japanese public with opportunities to host various cultural activities at the national level, and fostering competition and exchange.
The festival consists of Policy of Cultural Affairs in Japan Fiscal 2015 that are jointly hosted by the Agency for Cultural Affairs together with the hosting prefectural government or the municipal government, cultural group, or other organization associated with the locale concerned and Policy of Cultural Affairs in Japan Fiscal 2015 hosted by local governments that support the objectives of the National Cultural Festival.
In 2016, the "31st National Cultural Festival Aichi 2016" will be held in Aichi Prefecture under the theme, 愛故知新（AI-KO-CHI-SHI-N）"~ Love Tradition, Study the Future, Create a Culture ~"
The festival will be held in Nara Prefecture in 2017 and in Oita Prefecture in 2018.
